Snotgirl Vol. 1: Green Hair Don’t Care by Bryan Lee O’Malley & Leslie Hung

Synopsis:
Who is Lottie Person?
Is she a gorgeous, fun-loving social media star with a perfect life or a gross, allergy-ridden mess? Enter a world of snot, blood, and tears in this first collection from New York Times Best Seller Bryan Lee O’Malley (Scott PilgrimSeconds) and dazzling newcomer Leslie Hung!

This was a bit of an impulse buy. I had been looking at Snotgirl from time to time never buying it for ages because I’m always worried I’ll just end up disliking the art or something but finally ended up buying it last week!

Snotgirl is about a fashion blogger Lottie who secretly suffers from serious allergies. Her doctor prescribes her a new slightly experimental medication which is very effective but after she starts taking them some weird things start happening to her.

I really enjoyed this comic! The art is lovely and colorful and the story was interesting. I haven’t stumbled on comics about bloggers before so something new like that was nice and I could have enjoyed the story even without the weirder aspects added by the allergy pills. The glamorous life of a fashion blogger was exaggerated in a hilarious way and the way Lottie gave nicknames like Cutegirl and Normiegirl to everyone added to that nicely. She’s too fabulous to bother remembering people’s names (honestly though, the nicknames really helped me remember who was who).

Coolgirl’s storyline felt a little confusing to me to a point where I doubted her existence, and the wilder parts of it felt almost a little too much. It didn’t bother me enough to make the story less enjoyable though!

Did I mention how much I liked the art?

  1. I’m glad this one was an impulse buy that worked out so well for you! I love the idea of it being about a girl who needs to work on her medication (and the weirdness that comes with it.) But I especially like the fashion blogger element. I know I will be able to relate to the blogger side of things! I don’t read many comics but my little sister loves them so I’ll have to look into it for her (thinking Christmas presents!)
