My Favorite Games Released in 2017

Since 2017 is pretty close to the end and I’m not expecting any new games I’d find interesting to pop out anytime soon, I figured I’d make a little list of games I enjoyed that came out this year.

Persona 5

Persona 5 was probably the game I was most excited for this year, obviously because I had been waiting for it for ages. It didn’t disappoint!Β  I loved the way the game looked and the story was great as always. I actually got this for PS3 instead of PS4 and can confirm that my experience didn’t suffer from it. See my longer rambles about this here.

Mass Effect: Andromeda

This was another game I was really excited for. Didn’t exactly live up to the hype but I mostly enjoyed it anyway. They improved some things like the character creation with updates after release quite a bit and it makes me a little sad they won’t be doing anything more for ME:A. See my longer review on it here.

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles

Yonder was a happy impulse buy for me when it came out in the summer. It looked so cute and chill I had to, and I ended up really liking it. Sometimes it’s nice to just run around feeding cute animals and hoarding everything you can possibly pick up. See my longer review on it here.

The Long Dark

I actually didn’t know The Long Dark was released this year until after I started looking up lists of 2017 releases for this post! I got it from this month’s Humble Monthly and turns out it’s really cool. I haven’t played much yet but I have already come to the conclusion that I’m absolutely horrible at survival games, but I like it anyway. I’ll most likely write a proper post about this once I’ve had a chance to play more of it!

Disgaea 2 PC

I played this and the first Disgaea game on PS2 a lot like 10 years ago so I was pretty excited when I learned they were coming out on PC because my poor PS2 is getting old. The first game turned out to be a pretty decent port so I went and bought Disgaea 2 the moment it was released on PC because I trusted it would be just as good (it was). These games are such huge time sinks I have never finished them, and I doubt that’ll ever happen but we’ll see how far in the story I’ll get before I give up this time.

Honorable mentions

This isn’t exactly a new game but the Morrowind expansionΒ for Elder Scrolls Online was a must buy for me because I play the game a lot. I’ve been lazy and haven’t explored Morrowind that much yet but I’m working on it! Also, this may be a weird one, but I really liked Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice even though I ended up refunding it. The idea of the game is really cool and it looks beautiful, but the combat was clunky at least on mouse+keyboard and that one door not opening despite completing a puzzle correctly even after reloading my save multiple times just made me feel like it really wasn’t worth 30€. I’ll most likely rebuy it once it’s cheaper though!

What were your favorite 2017 games? Or just favorite games in general this year?

  1. Nice list. It’s good to see Mass Effect: Andromeda getting some love. So many people jumped on the hate bandwagon. I really enjoyed it. My top 5 games of 2017 are

    1. Divinity: Original Sin 2
    2. Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus
    3. Mass Effect: Andromeda
    4. The Elder Scrolls: Legends
    5. For Honor

I did a top 10 over on my blog, but I’m lazy and don’t feel like typing anymore :). Your blog is awesome. I just followed you :).

  2. You know, it’s been ages since I played a proper video game, and by proper I mean not on FB/iPad/Android freebie list. I usually love the mission-type games, either city builders or Heroes of Might and Magic, or hidden objects games. I am planning on playing more video games in 2018, just because I miss the escape and the fun they offer. This is a great list and I will definitely check some of them out.

  3. My top three games this year are: Horizon Zero Dawn, Total War: Warhammer 2 and Final Assassin’s Creed Origins. I would also give Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age a special mention, as it is a fantastic remaster.
