I didn’t exactly read many books I didn’t like this year, but there were a few that stood out to me, so I’m just gonna make a little list of them. I’m not including any Outlander books here simply because I already made a whole post about them a while ago and everyone’s probably tired of hearing about them from me anyway, haha.
Uprooted by Naomi Novik
This was actually one of my first reads of the year since I got it from my Books and Tea secret santa! I’d been interested in this book for a long time and it didn’t disappoint, I ended up loving it a lot! I loved the characters and the way magic worked in it. I’m just sad this is a standalone book because I would have happily read more about Agnieszka and the Dragon. Full review ramblings here (trying to review Uprooted was actually my first proper post on my blog ever).
The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco
Another witchy book! The Bone Witch was really cool because it’s about a necromancy which is a type of magic I don’t think I’ve read about before. Everything was so beautiful and the magic system was really interesting in this one as well. I can’t wait for the sequel to come out next year!! Full review here.
Bubblegum by Sari Taurez
Bubblegum was just so fun! So full of action and the main characters were all badass ladies so what’s not to like? The main character is a rich girl who starts killing people for money because she realizes she enjoys it, and that naturally leads to some really wild stuff. She also has a pink rifle called Bubblegum. There’s plenty of LGBT representation happening in this book as well! Full review here. (This was also my first ARC ever!)
Ice Massacre by Tiana Warner
Another action book, this time with mermaids! Scary mermaids too. I remember reading this in like 3-4 days which is insanely fast for me because I can easily spend a month on a book even this short. Since Ice Massacre is about humans and mermaids fighting each other there’s not a boring moment in the book and there’s also a bit of a romance developing which is why I really need to read the rest of the series at some point. Especially since the third book came out this month! Full review here.
I’m surprised how many of these were 2017 releases because usually I have no idea about what new books are coming out. I guess being part of a book club has helped me with that!
What were your 2017 favorites?
