Have I Played This Yet? | A

Many of you may be familiar with the phenomenon of your Steam library mysteriously growing thanks to sales and the occasional free games and Humble Bundles, yet you never actually have time to play all those games that you end up hoarding. I certainly know that feeling all too well, so I figured I should probably do something about that.

Basically, I thought I’d make a little post series where I go through my Steam library perhaps alphabetically and see which games I have actually played and which have just been sitting in my library never installed. So basically mini reviews of the games I’ve played and shaming myself for not playing some of them haha.

So here’s the first batch of games starting with A!

Finished (112 minutes)

This game was gifted to me on Steam a couple of years ago for Christmas and it was a really beautiful game! Really short though, as you can tell from my playtime and I’m not exactly an achievement hunter so I likely won’t go back to completing those unless a mood suddenly strikes me.

AER Memories of Old
Status: Never played

I think I got this from a Humble Monthly thing but I’m not entirely sure. Just pretty sure. The game looks beautiful though so I definitely need to remember to pick this up soon. This is a good example of cool games I forgot I even had!

Alan Wake
Status: Finished (11 hours + American Nightmare 5 hours)

I also have the American Nightmare sequel thing, but I decided to just lump them together because I have played them both and they very much belong together. Alan Wake is an oldie and a goodie and it’s also Finnish so I have many reasons to like it, and would love to replay it now that I have a better computer than in 2012 when I first played the whole thing.

Alice: Madness Returns
Status: Not finished (63 minutes played)

I think I bought this game from a sale years ago and never finished it because my laptop was struggling with games in general, and when I got a better computer I just never thought to install it again. Probably should. I also found it this game doesn’t seem to be on Steam anymore which is interesting.

Ame no Marginal -Rain Marginal-
Status: Never played

Pretty sure this game came with some visual novel Humble Bundle I got for like one game and forgot what the rest even were haha. The art style is pretty generic cute visual novel style and the story sounds depressing so I have no idea why I decided to keep this instead of giving it away. Oh well, it’s sitting in my library now.

Soo yeah, there’s some games. I’m hoping these posts can work kinda as game recommendations for you guys and reminders for me that I have too many games to play already.

  1. I got Alice: Madness Returns a few years ago. Back then I didn’t even finish the first level. However, I started playing it back in October and I quite enjoyed how whimsical and dark it’s – since then I stopped because Spyro Reignited Trilogy came out and now I want to go through all KH to get ready for the the third game release.

  2. I’ve always wanted to play Alice Madness Returns, it looks so awesome and dark. I have so many steam games I haven’t played compared to the slim few I have!

    1. Alan Wake is really good so I definitely recommend since it’s been added back to Steam and everything 😉 (it was removed for a while due to music license expiring or something)

  3. Abzu looks pretty cool, but it’s one of the few I want and haven’t bought yet. Don’t think I want to know how many games I have bought but never installed! Although there’s definitely less of them compared to books I’ve bought and never read!

  4. Oh, part of me wants to do this, and another part of me knows how many unplayed games I own on Steam (hint: it’s over 1 thousand). I should probably do a series where I pick out 5 titles, either at random or with some sort of theme, and pledge to either try them all or even finish one or more of them if my first impression is positive. Hmmm… Great post, really got me thinking!

  5. I have to dig through my own Steam library and find what I haven’t played to finally review the damn things. There are at least 50 of them.

I just wish there were a way to hide games from friends on Steam. I know you can mark yourself as offline, but it’s not a total cover and I don’t need my friends knowing I bought Nekopara in a moment of weakness.

    1. It’s funny how many games just go forgotten in the depths of the steam library 😀

I think you can just set your game details to “private” in the profile settings? I think that hides things more than the “friends only” setting at least.

  6. I’m not really a gamer. I like to watch others play since they are usually better than I am and I don’t have enough time to get better :’) I stick with Nintendo games hehe. The first two seem really interesting though! I’m excited to follow this series ^^ Can’t wait to see what other games pop up!

    1. Haha I’m not exactly a master gamer either but I just follow the “it’s better to be bad at video games than mad at video games” philosophy 😀 I’m glad you like the series idea because I’ve got a long long list of games to go through!
