May Video Game Wrap Up

may

It’s that time again! I feel like this has again been a pretty lazy gaming month, but when I think about it I actually finished a game this month so that’s actually pretty good! My summer vacation started a couple of weeks ago so I should have more time and energy to do fun things and hopefully be a bit more active blogger again.

Anyway, video games!

The one game I actually finished this month was Telltale’s Jurassic Park: The Game, which I already wrote a review of so go read that if you want to see my more in depth thoughts of it. It was an occasionally frustrating but fun game and I finished it way faster than expected because it had less episodes than I expected. Dinosaurs are great okay.

I have made barely any progress in Pillars of Eternity since last month’s post because I just haven’t been in the mood for it, but I’ve been trying a bunch of new things! A game called Dauntless went into open beta not too long ago so Aks and I gave it a try and it turned out to be pretty fun. It was sort of like Monster Hunter (how much alike, I don’t know because I’ve only played like 15 minutes of Monster Hunter: World back when it was in beta on PS4) and I really liked the way the game looked. In all its simplicity you go on missions to hunt monsters.

The character creation was pretty fun by the way, you had to choose ancestors for your character first to get a base face before you got to really edit them!

Another game I’ve been trying out was a bit of an impulse buy. I had no plans of getting it anytime soon because it was expensive and I was waiting for it to be less than 20€… Well, one day I saw someone selling their used PS4 copy on Facebook for 20€ so I went and bought it!

Yep, Assassin’s Creed Origins. I haven’t played any Assassin’s Creed games since Black Flag because I kinda lost interest in them and from what I’ve heard they had a lot of problems, but the fact that Origins takes place in ancient Egypt had me curious. I haven’t played a lot yet, haven’t even left Siwa, but I’m liking it so far. I really like how they’ve done eagle vision in it, having an actual eagle friend is the best! It doesn’t feel so much like they took the same game and just put it in a different setting.

Assassin’s Creed Origins seems such an open game that it’s most likely going to be one of those games I’ll take months to finish. The fact that it has a really fun photo mode doesn’t help…

Here’s a couple of pretty screenshots I’ve taken:

Have you guys been playing anything fun this month?

  1. Assassin’s Creed Origins was fantastic. Loved it. So much, in fact, that I’ve already pre-ordered Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. I’ve been wrapped up in Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen and recently finished Detroit: Become Human. I did purchase Pillars of Eternity a few weeks ago but haven’t gotten around to it yet. It’s next up on my list, though.

    1. ACO has been pretty cool so far yeah 😀 I’m gonna be cheap and wait until Odyssey is on sale or something so I can hear what people think about it first (and 60€ games are just way too much for me atm). Oh Dragon’s Dogma is fun! That’s a game I should get back to one day, I never made it very far in it on my previous computer.

      1. I totally get that cost wise. I happened to trade in some games-I play on consoles atm-so I actually paid for half of the game with a credit. This is my second foray into DD and a much more successful one I think. I threw in the towel way too early last time. It gets a bit repetitive dungeon wise but as you are continually leveling and acquiring new pawn allies it keeps it interesting 😁

      2. Oh wow nice, you got a pretty good deal! 😀 I remember the pawn system in DD being really fun, being able to take my friends’ characters as companions was so cool.

  2. I have never, to my great shame, played Assassin’s Creed. I’ve heard great things about it though (if this somehow makes up for it lol). I’m currently playing Sims free, because there’s some new timed missions that I’m trying to complete. I’m also trying to find the motivation to play Hogwarts Mysteries, but so far the fact that there’s hardly any energy to complete missions, and the fact that you basically just have to click, endlessly, with no other real change in game play strategy kind of bums me out. I did however fall into the jungle called “Internet Archive”, where there are a bunch of old, 90s games I used to play as a kid. Think Jill of the Jungle, Prince of Persia 1, Sid Meyer’s Civilizations 1, Dune 2, that kind of games. Really old ones. I’m pretty comfortable in that place at the moment lol

    1. Haha, I haven’t played all the AC games either, I skipped quite a few before Origins because they make a new game like every year and I can’t keep up! Couldn’t say no to ancient Egypt though. I couldn’t really get into the Hogwarts Mystery thing either because of the energy meter nonsense which is kinda sad because otherwise the game looked really cool. 😦 That Internet Archive thing sounds really fun, sounds like something my fiance would enjoy too because he’s really into retro games 😀

  3. AC Origins is fantastic and my new favorite entry in the series. Glad you’re enjoying it so far!

I just finished and reviewed Detroit on PS4 and started replaying Super Metroid earlier today. That about sums up my weekend plans.

  4. I’ve been playing a lot of Ni No Kuni 2 and Elder Scrolls Online. I have to say that Assassin’s Creed Origins is one of the stronger entries in the series. Your screenshots look amazing!

    1. Hehe thanks! Origins definitely seems pretty neat so far so I hope the rest of the game will be good as well. I’m really interested in Ni No Kuni 2 too but I’m waiting for the price to go down. Yay for ESO! 😀
